SUMMARY:Positive Aging Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Positive Aging Workshop\nMillersburg\, OH \nHealthy Living starts with Positive Aging! The Falls Prevention Program of Holmes & Wayne\, under the direction of the Holmes County General Health District (HCGHD)\, and the Standing Against Falls Coalition are sponsoring a Positive Aging Workshop series to celebrate Older Americans Month. The 60 and over population are encouraged to attend. Caregivers\, adult children\, and anyone who is interested in learning what healthy\, positive aging looks like is also encouraged to participate as well. In each workshop session\, attendees will be provided with further life tools to continue to guide individuals into healthy and safe aging. The workshops are FREE! \nEach workshop consists of two 1-hour sessions. Each session has relevant topics pertaining to positive aging and healthy living as we age. Speakers represent agencies from Holmes and Wayne Counties and the State of Ohio. Individuals are asked to pre-register for workshops they plan on attending so appropriate amount of resources will be available. \nSession One\, 1-2 p.m.: “Sensitivity to Aging”\nSensitivity to Aging provides participants unique perspectives on difficulties we may face as we age. SUMMARY:Meeting Communities Where They Are: Innovative Approaches to Dementia Supports and Services
DESCRIPTION:National Alzheimer’s and Dementia Resource Center (NADRC) Webinar\nAddressing the unique support and service needs of communities is central to effective home- and community-based dementia care. While many dementia-specific interventions are grounded in research and best practices\, they often require thoughtful adaptation to effectively reach underserved populations. Supports and services for people living with dementia\, their caregivers\, and their communities are most impactful when tailored to reflect cultural values\, language\, and lived experiences. \nThis webinar will feature two specialized\, community-based dementia programs\, each focused on an underserved population—African American and Korean American communities. Both programs have adapted their approaches to reduce barriers to service acceptance\, increase engagement\, and address unmet needs. While at SMPDD\, she has worked with the Elderly and Disabled Waiver Program\, was the Discharge Coordinator with the Mississippi Access to Care Department\, and currently is the Alzheimer’s Disease Program Manager. \nHye-Won (Grace) Shin\, PhD\nExecutive Director | Somang Society \nDr. Hye-Won (Grace) Shin is the Executive Director of the Somang Society\, where she leverages her background as a biomedical engineer to dismantle the health disparities\, language barriers\, and low health literacy affecting older Korean and Asian American adults. Serving concurrently as the Director of Asian American Community Outreach at UCI MIND\, she acts as a critical bridge between academic research and immigrant families to ensure equitable representation in dementia studies.
