Events
The following are events throughout the community that may be helpful to caregivers, those with dementia, and those interested in making their communities more dementia-friendly. There are both virtual and live events, some hosted by The Ohio Council for Cognitive Health, and many hosted by our friends and partners in the community. We hope you find them helpful!

Free Dementia Friends and Dementia Champions Training
Please join The Ohio Council for Cognitive Health for a free, virtual Dementia Friends Session with an optional Champions Training (total program length 2 hours).
Sessions are offered monthly, alternating between Thursday mornings and Tuesday evenings. Please check the schedule for available dates and times.
Dementia Friends is a global, call-to-action movement developed by the Alzheimer’s Society in the United Kingdom and now underway in the United States. The goal is to help everyone understand how dementia impacts individuals and families—and the small actions we can each take to make a meaningful difference.
These sessions provide a welcoming introduction to dementia and are designed to help community members better understand how dementia affects individuals and families. Each session covers the basics of dementia — including common types, signs and symptoms, communication tips, community resources, and more. Positive messaging and stigma reduction are central to the program, which is intended for audiences across all community sectors.
Dementia Friends Session (first hour)
Participants learn foundational information about dementia and simple, everyday ways to support people living with dementia in their communities.
Champions Training (second hour)
Those who wish to become Dementia Friends Champions stay for an additional one hour training. Champions receive the information, resources, and materials needed to deliver free virtual or in-person Dementia Friends sessions throughout their communities.
