GWEP Brain Health ECHO | When Dementia Doesn’t Travel Alone: The Impact of Comorbidities in Dementia Care

Presentation Description
Dementia rarely travels alone, meaning approximately 70% of individuals living with dementia experience one or more comorbid/coexisting conditions. In this presentation, we’ll explore the four most common comorbidities seen in individuals living with dementia and the potential impact on quality of life, health outcomes, and caregiver burden. Strategies and resources to improve management of comorbidities in dementia care, while decreasing caregiver burden will be discussed.

Objectives

  1. Examine the four most common comorbidities seen in individuals living with dementia.
  2. Discuss the impact of comorbidities on individuals living with dementia; healthcare costs and caregiver burden.
  3. Identify strategies and resources to improve management of comorbidities in dementia care while decreasing caregiver burden.
